Biography
Joaquin de Jesus CLERCH-DIAZ was born in Havana on 8.8.1965.
He began his musical studies at the age of 7 and, in 1987, he received
his diploma as concert performer from the Higher Institute of Fine Arts
in Cuba.
His guitar were, among others, Marta CUERVO, Viki RODRIUEZ,
Isaac NICOLAS, Rey GUERRA, Léo BROUWER et Costas COTSIOLIS. Carlos
FARINAS taught him composition.
He won first prize at the 1987 TORONTO Festival for his
solo guitar work entitled "YEMAYA".
His work entitled"GUITARRESCA" was the compulsory
work at the Havana International Competition.
In 1990, a bursary offered by the "MOZARTEUM"
of SALZBURG (Austria) gave him the opportunity to study theguitar there,
under the wing of Eliot FISK, with Antony SPIRI and Nikolaus HORNONCOURT
for ancient music.
In 1991, the Austrian Minister for Culture awarded him a higher diploma.
Joaquin de Jesus CLERCH-DIAZ currently teaches guitar
in the MOZARTEUM of Salzburg as assistant to Eliot FISK.
He has participated in many international competitions and won fist prize
at the following competitions:
HAVANA in 1998
ALMUNECAR (Spain) - Andrès SEGOVIA - in 1990
BRASIL (H.VILLE - LOBOS) in 1992
WALCOURT (Belgium) - PRINTEMPS DE LA GUITARE - in 1992
Since the age of 17, he has given concerts both in America and in Europe.
